Ride Entry – 7th June 2009

Bike: Lightspeed
Distance: 35 miles

Really windy. No, REALLY windy. Right pain in the bum most of the time and I;d had enough after only 35 miles. 17.4mph average over that time, pretty slow. I can only blame the wind although I did go for a quite hilly course too. Nice and un-eventful and at least it was sunny. My new zyme shorts rock hugely, very comfy. Excellent recommendation from STW there.

One good thing did come from the ride though, I’ll let you see the evidence….

SPEED

Need to sort out the front mech so I can get it into a decent gear for descending, I reckon I can get it to 60 easy down this hill if I can actually pedal.

There’s a new road from Chorley into Buckshaw village, smooth as anything, good gradient, long, wide, I bet you could get some serious speed down there.

    I can’t get anything over 38 anymore.

    Wow!
I’m also a zyme user (M zymes, XL inners!?) cracking shorts and so far seem to be resisting mud/saddle abrasion quite well.

lol, XL inners to accomodate the extra girth?! ;-)

Daft endura sizing, my other endura shorts are XLs (humvees) but Zymes are huge, L had a mahoosive waist, XLs forget it. M zymes are a bit closer fitting than others but not restrictive and they stay up!

Which hill? Down to the Farmers Arms from the Rigbye Arms is good for over 50.

not that one. The road from Belmont back over to Rivington, dropping down to the farm just before the left turn to the start of the ICR. The fastest bit is actually just before the dip in the road where the road is all damaged, which makes life interesting.

you’re nuts going that fast down there, there’s no where to go when a car cuts the corner.

I think that’s a road Simon’s topped 50mph on, just remembered that fact, he’d mention it but he’s in France eating snails.

yeah, he hinted as much on my flickr page. Wait till I sort the gears out, 55-60 I reckon.
