Ride Entry – 20th December 2009

Bike: Crosslight
Distance: 27 miles
So I did have a few drinks last night, and I did have a lie in this morning. Plenty of snow had fallen overnight and it was clear there was going to be more today. Didn’t leave the house till ten. Nice timing, within about ten minutes the snow was so heavy I could hardly see more than a couple of metres. It stopped and started so I kept taking shelter. When I was riding on the road I was the fastest thing on it, brilliant.
Riding in the snow is so cool though. Even though it was heavy snow/hail at times, this was a great ride. Wore my glove liners too and my fingers were toasty warm the entire ride.
Still plenty of sheet ice covered in snow around and the last couple of miles back home found me on my arse more than once.

Glad I bought these cheap monster tyres from Halfords too, they’re excellent in the snow.

just out of curiosity (cause i’m still not back at work)… what are the glove liners you are talking about? I’ve got a pair that look like ‘thermal’ material from cotswolds, and think your prob talking the same thing..

no idea. They’re not branded and I bought them last year but never wore them till now. They’re black, made out of wool, quite tight.
How’s your back now then?

nope mine aren’t branded either.. (might be blue mountain thermal inner gloves). Need a new pair really as have burnt/ripped and generally have a holey pair right now – but they are fantastic.
Back’s, ok ish. Hydro therapy is really doing it’s stuff in getting me moving in a supported environment. Am slowly weaning off the drugs too, which is making me VERY tired, in more pain, and grumpy (all expected side effects). I may just be able to have a drink for xmas (but only one) and hopefully mid jan may be back at work…. Still have just sifted through the bike/climb toy chest and got out the spare tubes that are needed for the bike before use (never did get round to fixing the last pinch flats before i went to the alps). Am moving a lot more than i used to and even did a bit of ‘wii’ gaming/yoga (in a ooh – ahh – pain kinda way) but hey everything helps..
We were considering going up to norfolk to see the in laws at the weekend but a flat battery in the new audi put paid to that (wife driving – I still can’t yet) so joy have to sort that out somehow with the garage i bought her from.. sheesh cannie anything ever go right?
